DIETARY
SUPPLEMENT
TRUTH-IN-LABELING PROGRAM
Athletes have the
right to know that the supplements they are taking, including
sports drinks, amino acids, and protein products, are
legal for all sports, and do not contain banned substances
or ingredients not listed on the product label.
Even
though drug-free athletes and consumers strive to select
healthy, legal-for-sports supplements, it is
still possible for an athlete to obtain and consume a
product, purchased in their local health food/supplement
store, that will cause them to test positive for banned
substances.
Despite
all precautions, athletes, coaches, and trainers are currently
challenged to find sports supplements that are banned-substance-free.
Honorable
sports supplement manufacturers are seeking independent
validation to provide to the public which warrant that
their product is indeed banned-substance-free, and that
their label is accurate.
In
order to do this, it requires independent assays and raw
materials audits. Further, it is impossible for any sports
marketing company to provide a 100% guarantee on any product
they distribute without an analysis of every single unit
of product manufactured, and an audit of every single
ingredient used in the product.
An
absolute 100% guarantee is impossible unless an in-house
audit of the manufacturing laboratory is undertaken, and
FDA records for said laboratory has been examined for
violations.
Athletes
and consumers need to be wary of any program or laboratory
that makes 100% guarantee claims on drug-free supplements
without benefit of manufacturing audits, assays, and analytical
documentation.
DETECTING

order to detect banned substances in dietary supplements,
beverages, snacks, and foods, advanced analytical methods

CERTIFICATION
PROGRAM
SEAL OF APPROVAL
Companies
that have duly submitted a sports supplement (s) to HSP,
and whereas said supplement has passed all the protocols
as outlined by the HSP Truth-In-Labeling Program,
and whereas said company has provided all the required
documentation, are eligible to obtain a License-to-Use
the Human Sports Performance® Certification Mark (Seal
of Approval) on that specific product.
The
Human Sports Performance® Certification Mark (Seal of
Approval) is registered with the United States Patent
& Trademark office.
The
HSP Certification allows the manufacturer to obtain a
License-to-Use the HSP Seal of Approval on the product
label, and on their official website, in relation to the
product that was submitted and tested.
Manufacturers
and distributors may not market any product to consumers
bearing the HSP Seal of Approval without full consent
from HSP.
HSP
conducts blinded random product testing on any supplement
that bears the HSP Seal of Approval. If, during random
HSP testing, the product analytical screening shows the
presence of a banned substance, or any substance not disclosed
on the label, HSP will immediately notify the manufacturer/distributor
of the breach, and will:
| • |
Immediately
revoke HSP’s Seal of Approval |
| • |
Immediately
notify the manufacturer to remove the product from
the marketplace |
| • |
Notify
the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) |
| • |
Notify
the public when warranted |
| • |
Publish
said violation on an official HSP website |
